Turkey to invest $20bn to promote energy efficiency

By:Agbi

The first national energy efficiency action plan attracted investments of $8.5 billion between 2017 and 2023, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing Bilal Düzgün, head of the ministry’s energy efficiency and environment department.

The second action plan forecasts a $20.2 billion investment in all sectors between 2024 and 2030, he said.

Ankara has reduced energy intensity by more than 30 percent in the past 20 years, the minister said, adding that the country has achieved an energy savings rate of 4.5 percent in 2023, beating the global average of 1 percent.

Grants of up to 21.6 million lira ($610,000) per project are being offered to offices, business centres, shopping malls, hospitals and large campuses, Düzgün said.

He said that new public buildings must obtain green building certification by 2026, resulting in annual savings of 1.5 billion lira.
